5/11/14: Fandom Update: A Bit of Sadness, But a Whole Lot of Happiness

What Happened this Week?

Television: Ups, Downs, and False Hope

I have a backpack full of fun, and not so fun news about upcoming fall's plan for television. Let's start off with Supernatural.
In a sad turn of events, Bloodlines, the much anticipated Supernatural spin off, has been canceled. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show did gain the positive reaction and the rating they were hoping for. But, they did mention a possible future crossover (*crosses fingers for Destiel spin off*).
On the other side of that news, it is confirmed that Misha Collins back for Season 10! He has had his up and downs in Supernatural, going from a series regular to a special guest star and back to a series regular. But he is confirmed to be not only a regular in season 10, but a big part in the season finale, coming up in a few weeks. Exciting right?
Thank Zeus that I mentioned that bad news in the beginning, because it is sun shine and yellow brick road from here on out.
Marvel's beloved spin off, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has been renewed for another season. At the same exact time, Marvel announced a spin off series for the Captain America based on the beloved Peggy Carter.
I know from a first hand experience that this news spread like wild fire and instilled excitement in the hearts of all the fans, who had previously been hyped up on Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie. ABC has gone on and given the go ahead for the series. I believe, this is going to be a huge hit for Marvel and the Marvel community.
Just because I feel like adding to this post of madness, here are links to two super crossover gif sets I found on tumblr. Enjoy!

Ed Sheeran + The Fault in Our Stars = Serious Gross Sobbing
Just this past week, Ed dropped his song for The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack. The song below will be featured in the end credits of the movie coming out June 6th.

5/4/14: Fandom Update: Bloodlines

What Happened this Week?

Supernatural Crossovers
So just this past Tuesday the episode that sparks the Supernatural crossover series was released. Bloodlines will be a spin off of the hit series Supernatural based in Chicago following the five big monster families that run Chicago's underbelly. This'll be quite interesting. After nine years of the show being on air, it is going to be awesome to get a spin off.
Or not? The fandom itself is on the fence on the spin-off. How will we ever be able to love anyone besides our beloved brothers? Another problem is that there has been complete silence about future news. Misha Collins, Castiel on Supernatural, is quite vocal when it comes to news about the show itself and filming, along with the other cast members, but so far no much has been said about the new series.
Going back on the fandom, many are saying that Supernatural is not what it used to be. And that is one hundred percent true. There is a lot of different aspects of the show nowadays rather than back in season one. Many wonder what the plan is from here and whether or not the writers will start listening to the fans again and what they demand; destiel and salt hula hoops in particular. It is certainly sad to see a fandom so annoyed with its show writers (*cough* Doctor Who *cough*).
Another thing in major debate (and I think it is taking away from the fame of Bloodlines a bit) is whether or not Castiel, our favorite angel, will be coming back next season. There have been many a rumor floating around and according to an interview with Zap2it, Misha neither confirmed or denied the return of the angel.
Looks like us fans will just have to wait it out till we get more information on the situations at hand. Hopefully soon.

4/27/14: Fandom Update: Influences and Doctor Who

What Happened This Week?

John Green, Benedict Cumberbatch, and others for Top 100 Most Influential People
Let's start with Benedict Cumberbatch, cause yeah, if anyone has swept away awards and the hearts of young girls this year, it's him. Benedict starred in many blockbuster hits like Star Trek into the Darkness as an alien criminal who wants to save his people, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug as a fire breathing dragon, and in the hit BBC series Sherlock that aired for 3 movie length episodes. Throughout the year, he devoted his time, not only to these great movies and shows, but to helping others in every way he could. Just recently, he backed up teenager Stephen Sutton, who is a 19 year old boy blogging about his terminal illness. Through his blogs about his bucketlist, he has raised 2.8 million dollars for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Benedict also earlier in the year during the filming of Sherlock season 3 advocated for the paparazzi to photograph more important things like the crisis in Egypt. Benedict continues to be an influential actor and a role model to all.
Another that made the list, is John Green, a New York Times Best Selling Author and a role model to teenagers who want to change the world. John continues to lead his fan community along side his brother Hank, while taking on his new found fame from his book, and soon to be movie The Fault in Our Stars. Personally, John Green has influenced the way I live. He teaches you to observe detail, love life, and be who you are. He continues to make videos to update people on growing conflicts around the world and just talk about his favorite things.
Other large names that made the list were Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, writers of the hit "Let it Go." The song fit perfectly into the newest Disney film Frozen as it showed Elsa's end to her internal battle with her powers. It has also become an anthem for teenagers who struggle with their own anxieties. Robert and Kristen told the audience at the Grammys that they are up and open for Frozen 2.
Many other names made the list, but these were the three people that I thought were most important to mention. To read more about the other 97 most influential people this year, reference the link below.

Doctor Where, Doctor What, Doctor Who!
As summer rounds the corner, many of us are trying to take guesses at what the new Doctor will have in
store this coming autumn. We do have a sneak peak at a few things though! The series will include twelve episodes, which includes this years Christmas Special (which will air the same day as season 4 of BBC's Sherlock). Steven Moffat will continue to lead the show, along with writers like the beloved Mark Gatiss, and a guest writing from Neil Gaiman, who hopes to introduce a nightmare filled episode with a new monster. Another quest that will help with the show is Peter Jackson, the famed director of the Lord of the Rings series, who said that he will direct an episode, if he gets a dalek. Steven Moffat better give him a dalek. Of course, Peter Capaldi will step into the long worn shoes of the Doctor for the next season, along side his companion Jenna Coleman, and a new character Danny Pink, who will be played by Samuel Anderson. He has played many small parts in other TV series, but this will be the largest part yet. The first episode will kick off with the eleventh doctor's original gang: Madame Vastra, Jenny, and Strax. To read more about other quotes and rumors going about the series, read here.
On top of all that exciting news, the most prized companion herself, Billie Piper, is up for a Doctor Who spin off series featuring Rose and meta-crisis Doctor. Not much is known about another return by the beloved character Rose for Doctor Who, but we do know that Billie Piper would love to be back! So cross your fingers for a spin off from our favorite dymanic, and for a great new season.

4/21/14: Fandom Update: It's a metaphor

What Happened this Week?

It's a metaphor.
With the release of the new TFIOS clip, containing the "It's a metaphor" dialogue, came a whirlwind of popularity. "It's a metaphor" has now become a popular meme on many social media sites such as tumblr.

On top of everything being a metaphor, the songs that will be on the soundtrack for the movie was released, and there are some serious fan favorites on there. The soundtrack features songs from Ed Sheeran, a notable tear-jerker, and other small indie stars.

The contest for which states will be featured in the the TFIOS tour is still going on at Demand Our Stars leading with Florida, California, and Illinois. Keep reblogging and liking the gif for your state for a chance to get John and Hank Green, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Egort, and Nat Wolff to come to your state.
Now, let us wait patiently (ha) for the movie coming out June 6th. I know I plan on rereading the book before then, but what about you? How are you planning? Buying a custom tissue box?

4/13/14: Fandom Update: Hello Black Widow, Goodbye Harry Potter

I am extremely sorry about the lack of posts. It has been very busy and stressful for me lately and has set aback my reading and writing time. Hopefully summer will come quick.

What Happened This Week?

Captain America Spreads Patriotism through Theaters Everywhere
Cap received $96M for his stunning step across the silver screen, which pretty much guarantees a sequel to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and any other future movies Marvel decides to make. I would like to write a larger article for this, but I have yet to see the movie due to my vacationing in the great city of Washington D.C. After the success of the latest Captain America movie, Scarlett Johansson talks to The News Journal about the serious possibility of a Black Widow movie. Nothing it is known about this movie except that it is in the making and will be directed by David Hayter and written by Stan Lee. I am extremely excited to see where this goes and will be ecstatic when we start to get more information on it.

Daniel Radcliffe to say Goodbye
In a recent article by the Daily News and The Huffington Post, Daniel Radcliffe stated that he will most likely not be starring in anymore Harry Potter related films. He is quoted saying, "I am getting to old to wear a schoolboy's outfit." He does not say that he is fully against being in the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but he says he probably will not be participating. For now he enjoys acting in plays like his upcoming one, The Cripple Inishmaan. To watch the interview Daniel had with CBS news, look below.

3/30/14: Fandom Update: Paper Towns and Solid Finales

What Happened this Week?

Paper Towns: The Movie
Apparently, the success of The Fault in Our Stars movie is secured in, because they are already on for the next John Green book. The producers, screenwriters, and even actor Nat Wolff, Isaac in the upcoming movie, will be hired for the project. John Green will also be playing the top dog part of executive producer for the movie. I think we can have extremely high expectations for the movie if it will be produced by the author.
Nat Wolff will be playing the main character Quentin in the movie. Fans have shown some speculation on the point, due to the fact that Wolff will also be Isaac, a major character in TFIOS.
Are you excited? Because I know I am. This movie is expected to bust through the box office in 2015. For now, we will just have to wait for the greatly anticipated The Fault in Our Stars coming to your theater, June 6th.

A Season of Finales *TEEN WOLF SPOILERS*
As summer rises in every students' veins, shows come to the close. Last Monday came
the stunning conclusion for season three of Teen wolf with the death of Aidan and the goodbye to the twins. Not only did we experience character death, but character rebirth. The absolutely surprising revival of a hated (but secretly loved) character Kate Argent as what many fans are speculating to be a were-jaguar. I have done a bit of research myself into the subject to find that were-jaguars were a large mythological point in Latin American lore. Will we get some Spanish Mythology next season? Hopefully so.
Another large season finale tonight, is the end to season four of The Walking Dead. I actually write this article as I get ready to watch the episode myself. All we can expect is character death and reunion. Another large point will be setting up the plot for season five. Will Terminus be a safe haven? What will be in Washington D.C.? And will out characters ever get the frick frack out of Georgia? Whatever happens, all we can know for sure is that this finale will be a record breaker in viewings.

Fantastic Trilogies and Where to Find Them
Over course Harry Potter fans were awoken from the depths of their souls when J. K. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and were over joyed and thankful. No one could've predicted that it would be a three-part series.
Rowling confirmed the production of
Rowling says that she has already written the rough draft for the first film. Not much will be released about the film itself, except that it will be set in New York City around the 1930s.

3/24/14: Fandom Update: Divergent and Death

Hey guys! Sorry I've been a bit lazy lately, but I'm trying to get better at planning ahead.

What Happened This Week?

Release of the Divergent Movie
Sadly, I myself have not scene the movie, but I have definitely heard a lot about last weekend's release. First off, Divergent pulled off about $56 million in the opening weekend, which amazing compared to its competition of releases over the weekend, which included "Muppets Most Wanted" and "Peabody and Sherman." But sadly it did not pull in as much as blockbusters like "The Hunger Games" or "Twilight." BUT IT IS OKAY. This means that Divergent will continue in its franchise, Insurgent expected to come out in the next two years. As fans, I believe, that we were not expecting it to do as well. At least it shouldn't have. Divergent, along with movies like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beautiful Creatures, and Vampire Academy, are geared towards teen audiences. Twilight and The Hunger Games grew there viewing center into adults, which added more people to the audiences who would see the movie. The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, and other news sources always make a big deal of comparing each and every teen movie to the last, but really, we shouldn't be doing that. Divergent was geared towards young adults, and made a lot of money compared to the movies geared towards adults and teens. So celebrate, because Divergent made money!
Due to a mixed response by both the media and the fans, I have no idea how people think it did as a whole. I am going to see it this coming Friday, so expect a review soon.

Mourning Character Deaths *SPOILERS*
As many of you probably saw last Monday night, Allison Argent from Teen Wolf is dead. Fans will miss the strong headed, badass heroine that was admired by all. Crystal Reed spoke with MailOnline saying that the response from fans was absolutely amazing. Many fans participated in getting arrow tattoos in honor of the beloved warrior, while others payed their respects on the Teen Wolf Memorial site. Allison will be greatly missed in these coming episodes. But isn't that the real question. How will the characters on Teen Wolf take Argent's death? What will Scott and Mr. Argent do? Can't wait to find out in this coming episode, the season finale, Monday night at 9pm Central.

2/17/14: Fandom Update: Supernatural Crossovers

Hey guys!
So this is a new 'meme' I guess you could say, I will be doing. I plan to post it every Sunday and it will feature three or more articles having to do with everything fandom related. There will also be a small look at what will be happening in the future week. If you ever want me to add anything or mention fandoms, you can contact me on Twitter, Tumblr, or any of the social media outlets. I hope this comes in handy!

What Happened this Week?

Supernatural Renewed for Season 10

The president of CW, Mark Pedowitz, announced that Supernatural, along with many other fiction thrillers like The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Reign, and Arrow, will be renewed this next season. Supernatural will be reaching it's tenth season, meaning it will most definitely reach it's 200th episode. Pedowitz said, "As a fan of the show, who's seen every episode, as long as I'm here and those ratings still hold, God bless them, they can go as long as they want."
This is amazing news for Supernatural fans! Will we finally get to see the long awaited Supernatural Musical? Or maybe a bit of Destiel might come along in this coming season? Who knows! We'll just have to wait and see!

Jennifer Lawerence Missing from the BAFTAS?

This Sunday was at the British Award show, Lawrence missed out on accepting her award for Best Supporting Actress due to being fully committed to filming  X-Men: Days of Future Past and Mockingjay Part 1 and 2. It has been known that over the past few weeks filming has been postponed due to some icy storms in Atlanta. Another set back to filming was the death of Phillip Seymour Hoffman. The creators of the film have released that they will be using CGI to make up to the scenes that weren't filmed when Hoffman was with us.
Mockingjay Part 1 will be in theater November 21, 2014 if all filming goes according to plan.

New Percy Jackson/Kane Chronicles Crossover: Annabeth and Sadie Kane Meet!

This is beyond exciting for Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles fans. After the previous crossover between Percy and Carter, many fans have been discussing the desire for Annabeth and Sadie to meet. Little did they know that this wasn't long off. Rick Riordan announced on his blog that this crossover will be installed in the back of Mark of Athena books on April 8th. The short story itself will only be about sixty pages long, and first come out in the back of paperback Mark of Athena copies, then as an e-book. Read the excerpt here!
